THE MONTHLY RESET
Welcome to The Monthly Reset, a pause for people who want to live and work better, not just harder. Each month we share one key idea, a simple embodied practice, and a few grounded resources to help you build resilience and vitality from the inside out.
RESET INSIGHT
The longevity gap, is really a quality-of-life gap

Supplements are everywhere these days: capsules for focus, recovery, longevity, even happiness. We live in a time when wellness has become another marketplace, promising transformation one product at a time. Yet it’s worth asking: if all this access to health solutions really worked, why do so many people still feel exhausted, anxious, or stuck?
The truth is, the things that truly improve healthspan are often the simplest and the least marketable.
I used to think more was better: more protocols, more tools, more effort. But the more I chased optimization, the further I drifted from what actually mattered: feeling good, being present, staying consistent.
Most supplements do little if the foundations are missing. They can’t replace good sleep, daily movement, a balanced nervous system, or real human connection. They’re meant to supplement those things, not substitute them, and even then, many come with strings attached.
So what if the real question isn’t what else can I add? but what actually makes a difference? We don’t close the quality-of-life gap by buying our way out of it. We do it by returning to the simple, evidence-backed foundations that everyone can access — movement, breath, connection, recovery.
In the UK, the Health Trends and Variation in England 2025 report shows that while life expectancy continues to inch upward, healthy life expectancy (the years lived in good health) lags far behind. Men average just 61.5 healthy years, women 61.9, leaving many to spend their final decades managing illness or disability. And those numbers vary dramatically by region: people in Surrey enjoy up to ten more healthy years than those in places like Blackpool.
That difference isn’t genetic; it’s systemic and shaped by infrastructure, environment, access, and mindset. And the same principle applies individually: longevity without vitality is an illusion. True healthspan doesn’t begin with what we can buy, it begins with what we choose to practice.
EMBODIED PRACTICE
Coherence Breathing
One of the simplest ways to calm your system(and one supported by decades of research) is to slow your breath to about six cycles per minute.
Try this for five minutes:
Inhale through your nose for 5 seconds.
Exhale through your nose for 5 seconds.
Keep it effortless and rhythmic, like the tide.
This breathing pattern increases heart–brain coherence, balances your nervous system, and helps you access clarity on demand.
SCIENCE SNAPSHOT
When we slow our breathing to around six cycles per minute something remarkable happens inside the body.
Our heart rhythm begins to form a smooth, wave-like pattern. This synchronized oscillation between the breath and heartbeat is known as cardiorespiratory coherence, and it plays a key role in regulating stress, focus, and emotional stability.
Research published in Frontiers in Psychology by Rollin McCraty and Maria Zayas (2014) found that practicing coherence training significantly improved emotional regulation, resilience, and cognitive performance, in part by enhancing communication between the heart and brain. In other words, the simple act of breathing evenly helps align our physiology for balance and clarity.

"Attending a Wim Hof Method session with Oscar was truly transformative. His deep knowledge and genuine passion for the practice created an environment that was both educational and empowering. Oscar's guidance through the breathing exercises and cold exposure techniques was clear and supportive, making the experience accessible even for beginners. His calm demeanor and encouragement helped me push past my perceived limits and discover a newfound resilience within myself. I left the session feeling invigorated, centered, and with tools I can incorporate into my daily routine.
